Asylum denied and result withheld with USCIS for over 5 months

I arrived the US and applied for asylum after 2 months which was in February, 2013. I then had my interview in April but got a NOID after two weeks. I worked with my lawyer and we sent a timely rebuttal with new evidences and detailed clarification about what the AO did not understand initially. I did not get any response from the asylum office until my I-94 expired in June. At the end of July, it was about 150 days since I filed my complete I-589 so I applied for Employment Authorization Document-EAD and was waiting patiently for a positive result since I thought my asylum was still pending final decision with the USCIS. Sometime in August, 2013 I visited the asylum office to know my case status was told that my case was STILL under supervisory review. Just 2 days ago, I received a Notice of denial of my EAD and the reason was that I DID NOT have any asylum application pending with the USCIS. It said that my Asylum case was denied on April 26th, 2013, which was one day after my rebuttal got to the asylum office because I tracked it being sent by UPS carrier. Till date I have not received any FINAL DENIAL NOTICE from the asylum office. I don't understand why they withheld the decision. I only got to know this from the Service center processing my Work authorization. Please I want to know my chances. Can I just ignore the asylum process and apply to Adjust status through other means since I was not on removal proceedings? What other means are available to me to become a permanent resident in the US?

Depends what kind of visa you had, if you have A diplomatic visa there is section 13 rule, which enables you to get permanent resident card even if your diplomatic visa is not valid any more and you are illegal. I am not aware of other options. I think you can apply for exceptional abilities if you have, check it with your lawyer.

This is another example that situation is messed up and they make errors very often, cases lost, addresses not found, customer service agents are talking one you get another. No one knows anything.

By the way what was your asylum case about, religion, belonging to social group or what? also did you have evidence? and personal statements of experts?
