my bro applied asylum in dec 04/ 2007 and after the interview that day, the AO told him his decision would be mailed and so far today is dec 24, 2007 and he hasn't received his decision by mail yet. it has been over 21 says. how long more it's gonna take?few more days, weeks, months?

it's fraustating cos we wanna know yes or no mail from AO office.

the interview took place at asylum office in Chicago.


what you think we should do? anyway we can check the status by phone?

There is no right answer. It can take weeks, months, and even years... It all depends if your brother is stuck in name check or other security backgrounds...

Wait at least 30 days, then go to the asylum office and inquiry with them...

It sounds like you must call them in order to find out what's going on.
As I told u, my brother had his asylum interview four months ago, this morning I called the uscis about his employment authorization, the lady told both asylum and ead are pending.
She told us to look for what they Infopass, I even don't what is that.
Do you have any idea what is that???

info pass is is an appointment with a local immigration officer in your area, this is not asylum office but local general immigration office. what you do is, go to uscis.gov,
click on INFOPASS, and you can yourself schedule an appointment online, just follow the instructions, enter your info, choose , appointment date and print out the page and go to local USCIS office with that letter and it will have date and time, bring any asylum letter, and A# number, so they may give you some update but generally they deal with general immigration issues not asylum specifically so they can't or tell you anything I think.

Now I 'm sure you were right.
My brother has been to the asylum office 2day,they told him that his asylum is still pending.
Background or Name check???We don't know just keep waiting God's time to act on our behalf.
In a few days, he is gonna reach five months since he had interview with an AO at what they call a district office.
Your brother's case may be a different, you know it depends on each case.

Let's keep the flag flying.
 
5 months, i would rather tell my bro to go somewherelse to apply for asylum after one more month, i am serious, we can' t make him wait that long just from AO< if judge, thats another thing!

lets fight to get an update on when ur or my bro will get his decision

Almost five months waiting for an AO decision, it's really a nightmare.

bOUKI, did or does your bro have any legal status in US since he applied for asylum five months ago? is your bro currently in any legal status like tourist or any other visa?

Maybe they mail your bro decision when his visa expires!

my bro applied for asylum a month ago and he was told the same thing. he has his tourist visa until March, 2008

Here is the fact

As far as I know, my brother he is in fact my cousin by our tradition we consider each other as brothers.
His visa was valid till august 2007,he' no longer in valid status as far as I know.But based on what was stated on his asylum receipt number, he can stay here untill his asylum will be decided.
The asylum officer told him that he may have decision on the month of november, unfortunately nothing is sent till now.
We even used this number 1 800 898 7180 just in order to make whether his file was filed with the immigration court,the automatic operator confirms that the case is not filed with the immigration court.
Any way, we sent a letter requesting status of my cousin's asylum application hope that they will respond.
According to what I know, your brother is still in valid status,if they respond him positively it will be great, but if they deny, he will receive an intent do deny and then he gonna have Im think 16 days to reply but the officer can accept or definitely deny the case.
So I think for him to wait till the end of his status.
 
today we received ASYLUM STATUS INQUIRY RESPONSE LETTER from local asylum office and it has list of pre -printed answer to asylum status check and the check mark of our inquiry was that YOUR CASE IS STILL PENDING IN THIS OFFICE and you will be notified of any decisions, something like that. It didn't say when my bro will receive the decision or estimated wait.

There was one answer that has awaiting security.name check and this wasn't checked.
So this means its not because of name,security check that my bro's case is being delayed.
