Asylees Don't Need EADs. Don't File for A05

Yes, but it has other benefits. For example, asylees will need an EAD (or a REAL ID driver's license/ID, which asylees can only get with an EAD) to go through TSA security checkpoints to board flights after October 1, 2021 (assuming they don't have or don't want to use their home country passport).

News to me...Some new rule?
No. It's always been the case that for I-9 an asylee can present either:
  • Their asylee I-94 as List C document plus driver's license as List B document (see this page from the Handbook for Employers), or
  • Their unrestricted Social Security card (SS cards issued to asylees and refugees are unrestricted) as List C document plus driver's license as List B document

The U.S. does not care you do want or don't want to use home country passport.

I got my driving license and ID cards for my wife and children (REAL ID based) in Virginia while pending asylum

Although I am eligible for a real ID DL, I still use my "“Federal Limits Apply" DL, because I don't want to pay renewal fees. Haha.
