Asylee status not updated in SSA office

It happened to me this morning, when I applied for an Unrestricted
Social Security Card.
I have H1 and H4 status before, and it seems that from their database, I am still an H4 holder.
My old SSN has "allowed to work with INS authorization only"
I showed them my asylum approval, I-94 and EAD, also this letter below:
http://www.acf.dhhs.gov/programs/orr/ssnasylee.htm
The very rude lady there said that I am not allowed to work, they will send my data to Immigration and bla..bla...
I was not given a chance to explain, and was told to wait until
someone call my name.
Shortly, I met another lady, which doesn\'t know about asylum and
complain that my passport is expired, I should go to Immigration
to renew my passport (my government) ?????
Then I showed her again the ssnasylee.htm letter, and she said she
will send all my documents (passport copy , I-94s copies, asylum approval copy) to Immigration and if everything is OK, they will send me the new Social Security Card.

Just be prepared to have this problem when you apply SSN.

One other thing, when you received Asylum approval, make sure you
check you letter. My A# is incorrect in the approval letter, I have
requested and applied for a I-94 replacement and approval letter
replacement, the case was transfered to local INS office.
Until today haven\'t got any response.
I have to go to local INS office to fix this.

No Title

It is unfortunate we have to live all that, and it doesn\'t surprise me at all. However, the good new after all is that they were so compassionate that finally decided to do their work: check your status with INS, and save any other comment or further request.
Hopefully, if the verification is not taken by another rude employee, you will have everything resolved satisfactorily. Good luck

Good news

This was the same problem my other family members are having with the SS OFFICE.. Now i will have to notify INS by calling their hotline number regarding this issue..

This is very surprising when I went to get my SSN she saw my IJ decision letter and thats it. She did call the INS at the same time and got the confirmation. She didn't even ask for my id or any thing. I got my SSN within 2 weeks. I think you should go to a different office and apply again. Did she give you a receipt that you have filed an application. Here is the link to the social security rule for issuing SSN for asylees and refugees also you don't need your passport all you need is a valid state id or driver's license.
