Since he doesn\'t have an account here!
The question is he will marry in February 2002.
He just got GC and his fiancee\'s nationality is Singapore.
Which is the best(fastest) way to take his wife here???
1. Let his fiancee holding B-1 visa to the States, then get married and register here, change status here also.
2. Get married in Singapore, then apply for his wife in American embassy?(he heard this way will be very slow!)
Or any other suggestions will be welcomed!

Thank you!

I agree with JoeF, I dont think just because you marry here does not mean that you can change status stay legally because the it takes 5 years for a spouse to come here and if you are in US you need to maintain status.

But my advice to her would be get a long term visa like h1 or l1. Dont ever apply for I130 before you get any visa, once you apply for a immigrant visa all your non-immigrant visa gets automatically denied.

If you cannot get h or L, apply for a Canadian PR which is lot easier to get and she can be in US on a T1 Visa, which is lot easier and you just need to cross the canadian border.

Thank you for your reply................

My friend read your posts, and really appreciate for your help.
May I have questions for him again,
Does every consular take 5 years for spouse\'s GC applying, or depend on the embassy?
He heard some people said that according to the new immigration law( I don\'t know the Bill Number), spouse can wait GC/adjust status in the States, if the husband or wife jas GC?????

Thank you.

Is the priority date of permanent residents also depend upon
couuntry of birth? If so, does it mean all countries are
oversubscribed now? Many countries have visa waiver agreement
with the USA, so spousees from these countries can still visit
the USA. In fact, since they can stay in the USA all the time
if they leave the states every 3 months.

I think that a B1/B2 can still change their status but a visa
waver\'s holder can not and can only stay for 3 months.
