ASC Appointment Notice

In August 2007 I filed for adjustment of status (I-485). Today I received a letter from the Department of Homeland Security-U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services which says that in order to process my application they have to capture my biometrics. They set up an appointment for me on November 8th.
Could you please tell me exactly what that means? is it good news or just procedural? What's the procedure after this?

Here you go:

I had a small cut on the side of my left index finger somewhere close to finger tip. This morning I had my finger printing appointment. I went to Albany ASC. I went one hour 30 minutes earlier to the appointment. Security asked me to switch off my cellphone( it doesn't have a camera) and take that along with me in my handbag. They gave me the number based on the time of my arrival at ASC and not based on the appointment time. I never mentioned to them that I am having a cut in my finger. They rolled the fingers and took the finger prints. Finger print came really good in that finger with cut. It took only 10 to 15 minutes for the appointment. They asked me to sign and they took my picture. Everything went of well. When should I need to check with USCIS whether everything went on fine? Should I need to check with FBI? Any help on this is appreciated.
Thanks
Akil
