Attack on US Consulate in Kolkata, 4 dead

OLKATA: Two unidentified gunmen attacked the US Consulate in Kolkata and shot dead four police guards, officers said on Tuesday.
Twelve others, including consulate staff, were injured in the incident which occurred at 6:30 am, a police spokesman said.
Two men on a motorcycle armed with sophisticated weapons reached the consulate complex and fired indiscriminately, killing the guards, the spokesman added.
Prashanto Basu, the head of the US Information Centre in Kolkata confirmed the incident and said: "We have yet to get the details."
The injured had been taken to hospital and were undergoing treatment, the police spokesman said.
After the shooting, the entire state of West Bengal had been put on alert, he added.
Security for US missions in India had been beefed up after the September 11 terror attacks in New York and Washington.
