Guys,
I am thinking we should meet soon, in a place convinient to maximum number of people. I am thinking of running a campaign of awareness amongst people hit by this that we can do something about this collectively. My initial thought is even if we can collect small amount like 100-200$ amongst ourselves and spread our campaign to every place visited by Indians like temples grocery stores we can collect millions. 100's of thousands of people are affected by this. We can certainly hire a good lobbying firm. Again let's get together.
 
neha.....we do not have to meet physically....., we can meet using electronic communication...

but its all futile unless we have atleast 5000 people to start with.......frankly i would prefer atleast 20,000 people, last thing i want to do is campaign to get more members......i would rather use that time and resources to do something about my career/life, than try to bring a movement to liberate thousands of sheeps...

isnamerica started something like this....as far as i know....the leaders had so lost it...that they were not in their senses...i dont think they have more than 1000 member right now....even though their website may be showing close to 10k members or more....

Guys until we meet we talk we can't trust each other, you know desis, we don't trust our Dad for 50 Rs. It is critical.

You are right and wrong in a way. My personal opinion is the more we raise our voice the more we will land in trouble.

Another thing going on is they want Outsourcing to go in full swing. That is why all the Big guys are visiting India and planning to move a part of their opertion there entirely.

I think we should stay calm for a while and see what they think.

No matter what----Senators and Corporations do not want their employees to get the GC soon.

The more we fax to them the more they learn.

As long as we are allowed to work without any interruptions ....then what is the big deal?

Big guys are starting things in india...because they know...that bureucracy...willl slow the immigration process.........who introduced the s.1932.....it was done by the business lobby....

the more Gc holder....the more skilled workforce...who will compete with americans....which will keep the wages in a practical limit...thats the corps policy..

senators...they will listen to corps....and of course they will also listen to us...if our numbers are good enough...

who told u we will get in trouble if we raise our voice???....come on man....as long as you do not start demonstration....nobody is going to bother you.....

beleive me....all we need is 200k people affected by retrogression getting uniting....and we can make the people who make the laws understand...why we are suffering....and why we are also important to the economy....and how jobs will be outsourced if they do not allow us to settle here.....for every job offshored...they lose an additional job....

of course we are allowed to wokr without any interruption....but at the same time....we can also try to get some peaceful life thru GC...

neha...we have to be practical....we cant make the desis spend 15 mins...becos they dont blv that anything can be done....

how do u expect them to spend half a day travelling to meet physically...(unless u promise free lunch...that will get atleast 500 people....if you promise free booze...u will get 5000 people....if you can arrange strip dance...you may get 50000 people..... :D )
 
I agree with techy.

Guys have you call the senators washington offices. Try that first as it just MIGHT work.

If not, ofcourse Neha, I am all for creating some kind of a campaign, Yes, absolutely!
 
The world understand one language Money!!! you send faxes, email them but everybody knows where this will take us. I'm telling you guys it's not gonna work that way. Loobying is how the politics works in this country, it's another way of corruption. You are paying money to these Lobbying specialists Law offices which inturrn pay the lawmakers(Though I'm not sure about this), to talk or do something for you. It's not mcuh different then the recent Cansh on Camera expose of Indian lawmakers. They were also collecting money to raise questions in the Parliament. Here it is legal called 'Lobbying'.

But answer my one silly question. What are the advantages that a Corp will have if I get my GC in two years

Does the Corp benefit from me getting GC at all . I just do not get you at all

OR My boss does not give a damn sh** about my immigration status. All he cares is whether the work is done or not and in this case it is being done at a much lower cost.

Only advantage for us is Peace of mind and that is it.

ok...if we get GC it does not benefit the corps directly.....but the corps(not the desi companies...but actual american clients..) will be more than happy to help us get the GC, becos we do a good job, and they like their employees to be happy(atleast thats how the case is with me...).

another reason the corps want us to get GC is becos then there will be more hi-tech manpower pool.....(else we will go back ...remember..) which they want to hang around to keep the wages in control..(remember internet boom java rockstars...they used to bill $200/hr and work for 3-4 hours....and if you mess with them...they will be gone to the next shop in 2 hours...).

one more thing.....usa is a open market....and manpower is the most expensive thing over here....so they will have to allow people to share the work...by hook or by crook......if they dont allow GC/H1.....all the jobs will be offshored....and they will end up with worse than before...(i will still be happy....becos india will benefit a lot...)

This is a wonderful Idea of campaigning and thereby uniting together and making lawmakers understand about the problems that we are facing everyday. Also we need to explain in detail how the US economy/job market as a whole will suffer if we the legal immigrants seeking the immigration will have to go back. I also appeal to all the active and passive readers on immigration forums that lets keep on doing all that we can do to move this movement by faxing, writing , meeting or whatever it takes.
 
Meeting/lobbying : Not a bad idea !

Here are my few thoughts about Neha's post :

1.Why are we under estimating desi's/immigrant's unity....I just don't care about free breakfast, free lunch etc etc lets get it done whatever we want from USCIS, GC is our best interest.
If lobbying is necessary...lets do that...no harm in that.

2.Having GC will defenitely help US economy. As baby boomers starts retiring...where is a work force in US...so defenitely they would need skilled work force. They don't want to loose skilled workers like us, who are here atleast 6+ years.

Anyway point is : how to escalate this, so that we can get GC faster.

My client Manager and my collegues ask me every alternate day about my GC status...and beleive me they feel bad when I tell them immigration stories...My client is just don't want to deal with Desi body shoppers/consulting companies and they want to hire me ASAP.....I guess there would lot of poeple here in this forum in similar category like me.

We just need to bubble up/escalte our issues...nothing so far happened due to sharing our views in this forum....lets not use this forum as a knowledge base....

If meeting together is one of the way...lets meet in each metros...lets form local clubs/forums in LA, SFO, New York, Chicago etc etc....no need to travel much. Guys just don't think of any demonstration or any marching on streets...lets do it right way...talking with right people.

However before any meeting, we need to plan few things like whom to talk, how to escalate..etc etc..otherwise it would be wastage of time...

Mr. paul......sorry but you may have been missing from the scene for quite some time..........since you are not aware that there were several attempts to wake up our suffering desi masses......but all in vain........they are just happy with whatever they have......they are willing to take stress...ruin their personal life.....suffer indignity at their workplace......suffer becos they cant change job.....suffer becos they cant speak freely(this applies to almost 90% of GC applicants) since they do not want to jeopardise their current positions....

but they dont beleive that we can acheive something by uniting....and fighting for our cause....some of them are even scared that they may be black listed if they say anything against retrogression.........most of them think no matter what we do....we wont acheive anything (just like indian bureacracy...)

so all in all...the problem is ....we are not able to wake them up.......and beleive me......the last thing i want to do is....call my friends....and shout slogans, give bhasan.....so that they can change their mind.....i have tried to check their state of mind....by sending few emails.....no reponse so far.......i do want to talk to them in a harmless manner to see why they do not participate.....i will encourage everyone to do the same....call your GC applicant friends....and try find out why they are not participating to remove retrogression...

Techy, you are right. This would be a good start, Everyone should call their r friends who are in the process of GC. Talk to them and see where we are and what we can do. Also discuss all the options/efforts that are going on at different forums and what we can do to improve it. I am calling all my friends and friends of friends to start this process of uniting together.
