After seeing numerous similar questions on this board, I wrote an article about FBI name check. My information was gathered from many FBI and USCIS documents, as well as what I have learned from this great community. Your comments and suggestions are always welcome. If I have enough feedback, maybe even volunteers willing to share some details of their long-pending cases, I'll forward it to Washington Post which has recently published several articles regarding legal immigration problems. Maybe they will publish another report to raise the issue about name check delays.

I'm sure it will help someone.

You can also say that FBI checks different name spellings (this creates a huge problem for those from countries with non-latin alphabet)

Also you can mention that FBI name checks were intensified after October 2002 naturalization of a man suspected of ties to Hezbollah, and USCIS in December 2002 and January 2003 resubmitted all pending applications for new Name Check. (Old NC was only search in "main" database)

Good article. I think it could be more aggressive though to prompt those responsible for the processing be more performant.
There were couple of other articles that question the existence of the name check in its current form at all.

Suggestions to ZGreen

Hi ZGreen,
It is a good effort.
I would suggest you to make change in the title of article so that it will be eye catching. Something like...

Long Pending FBI name checks for immigration: Is it a threat to U.S. national security?

This may not be the best title , but you can word something with similar meaning.

Also include some past examples , Sept 11, when some terriorists were not detected even when were present in US.

The introduction need to be simplified. I suggest you to define what is name check in introduction and for what purpose it is done.

Emphasize more on national security and convertion to computer based name checks.

I hope it may help.

Thanks for the comments.

I was aware of the shift in 2002, but thought it was no longer relevant to most people who are stuck in name checks now. It is a good point though. Will reconsider.

As to the usefulness of name check, I know even some USCIS officials are questioning its worthiness. However, considering the current political atmosphere, I don't think it is wise to push for that direction. Rather, we should concentrate on pressuring the FBI to speed up their process. This is not only for the sake of long suffering immigrants and their families, but from national security standpoint as well.

Keep the suggestions coming.
