Are tax returns mandatory?

Many have posted here that they got an RFE for tax returns. Are tax returns mandatory with 485 filing or it is upto the discretion of the adjudicator to ask for it? My lawyer had not included it in the list of documents needed for 485 and hence I had not sent it. Should I expect an RFE on my case (though it will be a while till they take my case for adjudication).

I did not send tax return either.

My lawyer did not want that from me. I think there are a few people got RFE without being requested tax return.

USCIS ask many thing's for which is no reference mentioned in the Immigration law.

Being they ask, many attorny submit all the tax returns.

If you have every thing and proper, it wont hurt by submitting it.
