Are fp compulsary for N-400 application?

I had fingerprinting (fp) done in Dec 05 when I filed I-90 to replace a lost green card. Is there a way for me to skip fp in my N-400 application, that I plan to file this month(07/2006) - by reusing my old set of fp's. Or is it compulsary to repeat the fp process?

You will most likely need to get your fingerprints done again for your N400 application.

I asked the officer when they were taking my fingerprints for my replacement green card if USCIS would be able to use these fingerprints for my N400 application and he stated that it is NOT possible since each application go to different areas.

In short, each application is considered a separate thing.

BTW, this was definately within the 15 month timeframe of fingerprints being valid. This was in the San Jose CA DO so it might be different.

Hope this clarifies things.

There was another thread about this recently. I recall the answer was "FP's are valid for 15 months", so likely you'll not get called for fingerprinting if USCIS decides to reuse your existing set.

Just do whatever your NOA says when you receive it.
