Hi again,
This may sound like an insulting question, but I am trying to see the world like an American officer at the border.
A TN status is good for up to 1 year. At the border, if I am asked what my intentions are after the one-year contract, the right answer is "go back to Canada" (according to what I have read).
To be honest, I don't know if I'll be back to Canada after a year. My husband has a 3-year contract on a H1 (he's not Canadian). I'll probably renew my TN after a year or convert to H4. Our intention is to go to Canada permanently after 3 to 6 years in the US.
1) What could I say then? Is it risky to say that I plan to convert to a H4 after a year?
2) I wonder how it works for long-term TN holders. The answer "I'll go back to Canada after my TN is up" may be fine once or twice, but how can you convince an officer that you intend to go back to Canada after a year when this is your 5th or 6th renewal?
Thanks.
