April 2008 Filers here!

Good luck April filers!

Be sure to read all instructions carefully and take note of a new additional filing fee that just came effective April 1:

"04/01/07 - Washington, DC: Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff today announced a new Border Fence Construction Fee required for applications for Adjustment of Status postmarked by April 1.

'Due to the federal deficit and internal budgetary constraints, only 20 miles of the federally mandated 700 miles of border fence have so far been built. Since Americans should not be required to pay for this fence with their tax dollars, we have devised an innovative solution based on USCIS's fully fee-driven operating cost structure,' Chertoff remarked. 'The new fee will fund 40 inches of border fence per applicant. With an estimated 800,000 applications per year, we will be able to raise the funds to fence in the entire continental United States, consisting of 5920 miles of southern and northern border, in just under 12 years. We all know that America has had a long history of immigrants helping to build our great nation. We are grateful that they will once again step up and help build this fence, for a safer America for them and all of us!'

The final rule on the new Border Fence Construction Fee was published in the Federal Register on April 1."
