Finally approved.
My case was transfer to Newark office on dec2002 for an interview that I had on Jan. 2003. My case was pending on Cia check. After around 7 moths I went in person to Newark to ask for the case. They told me that the officer have up to one year to give the answer in such cases. They told me nothing can be done until one year is over. Anyway they made me fill up a form that they will give to the officer that has my case to let her know that I was there asking. 2 days later they approved the case.
I hope this information can help somebody.

Many thanks to all the friendly people in this forum that help me, and a lot of others, to go through the process. I'll never forget all your help.

Thanks,
Malda

Congrats!

I have almost the same dates as you, but no approval, and I'm waiting for security or name check results for over 4 months.

Is the CIA check the famous name check ( this check was supposed to be performed in 120 days max)?

Thank you for the info...and good luck

rav8tor,
Yes this is the Cia check.
In my case looks like the things where just sitting in the officer's desk and she must be checking only time to time in the cases pending.
To go to Newark you need the patience of being there in line early, they open at 7:30, but better be there earlier, lines are long and when they have taken enough people they close.
They will tell you already outside that the officer has one year to give and answer but I said that I still want to wait and go inside because I'll ask for my work permit renewal.
The wait was worthwhile in my case because this small notice that went to the officer that made my interview was a wake up call.
Good luck!

Thanks to all for your congratulations!

Congrats and one question

Congradulation for your approval!

You said that the officer has to give an answer within one year. Is she/he from CIA or BCIS ?

cyj2002,
the officer is the immigration officer (BCIS officer). If at the time of the interview your Cia check was not yet received by BCIS then your case remains on the desk of this BCIS officer. Time to time he/she has to check in his/her computer to see if they have received the CIA report and put it together with the case and sent the approval notice. To do this steps the officers in BCIS in Newark,I don't know in other offices, have up to one year.
I hope it helps,
Malda

Thank you Malda.

I'm not with Newark, but Buffalo, NY. I plan to go for employment renewal to see if anything moved.
It seems that Buffalo does not schedule the interview until you are cleared.

Congrats again...

CIA check for every interviewee?

Is this CIA check for everyone? I noticed people got stamped right after interview a few month back also in Newark. Can someone asnwer this question pls?
thanks

niwniw,
This Cia check, for the best of my knoledge, is for everyone. But I think that this was not always there. Then for sometime they schedule interviews without having received the reports of Cia for the particular cases. Now they must have most of the Cia reports for the cases that they are processing and then is not any longer an issue for approval.

pingpong02,
They are one check by FBI through the finger prints and one from CIA through the name. Or at least this is what I have understood.
