Check my sig. I applied for my I-485 almost 2 years ago to the day.

If you want updates by email, go to https://egov.immigration.gov/cris/jsps/index.jsp and create an account. You'll need the case number for your I-485.

It's called retrogression. There is a limited number of visas each year they can use to give people green cards. When I sent in my I-485 two years ago, the cut-off date retrogressed to 1 year before my priority date, one month after I sent in my I-485. You can't get approved if your priority date isn't current (before the cut off date).

So basically, for the last two years my I-485 was not approved because there were no visas available. This month the cut off date advanced to AFTER my priority date and my case was approved.

applying to i-485 befoer the pd is current

Hi,

What my lawyer told me is that one cannot even submit I485 if the pd is not current. Was it different two years ago? oh I see -what a pity- you sent your I485 when the pd was available then they just ignore your application due to retrogression started just the asme month you applied...? oh man...unless you submitted your I485 applic kind of late..

Anyway I just submited mine my PD is current I hope government does not come up with the idea of retrogress again. I am rest of the workd the PD were jumped 1 year the last bulletin.

Yup, that's exactly what happened, my date was current so I applied for I-485, then the next month it was retrogressed.

I think if your date is current now, you stand a pretty good chance of not seeing retrogression for the next while. I don't think EB3-ROW cut off dates are going to move back any time soon.

Once you submit the 485 it usually takes a few months for them to process it (fingerprints, name checks, etc.). Many people (like myself) who filed the 485 in 2005 or late 2004 weren't yet approved when the big retrogression of 2005 hit. During retrogression they often continue to process cases, asking for fingerprints, giving RFEs and even interviews, but they just can't officially approve it until your PD is current again.

Anyway I just submited mine my PD is current I hope government does not come up with the idea of retrogress again. I am rest of the workd the PD were jumped 1 year the last bulletin.
There is a danger of that happening, because things can change in the 4-12 months that it takes to process your 485. Those who filed their 485 before retrogression are in better shape, as the past two years have given the USCIS a chance to take a thorough look at their cases and some have already started getting approved this month.
