Approval Via E-mail?

How are some of you getting Approval E-mails,
is this something we have to sign up for Via USCIS.gov?

is this different than the Case status online registration?

Please advise!

Email will be sent to you as long as you sign up for the case status online with your receipt number and providing USCIS with an email address and have the email notification turn on.

I didn't receive any email if your case is touched or last updated but I received email when the case is approve, so it is still good to log in to check it periodically.

Actually, you get an e-mail when the message changes. This happens, for example, if they send you an RFE or when they receive the response for the RFE. A lot of updates do not change the status message for the case, so it is worth checking in once in a while.
