What petition?
:)

Yes, as long as you have valid ID (your passport or state issued) you can travel within the country :)

the petition is an i-130:

Application Type: I130 , IMMIGRANT PETITION FOR RELATIVE, FIANCE(E), OR ORPHAN

Current Status:

This case has been approved. On ABC 51, 200X, an approval notice was mailed. If 30 days have passed and you have not received this notice, you may wish to verify or update your address. To update your address, please speak to an Immigration Information Officer during business hours.

so i am waiting for the letter. i take from there i can put an formal i-485. but i am traveling to another state before the month ends. will do so anyway either by plane or greyhound.

can i use my foreign passport which is valid? my 1-94 has been expired for a very long time. can't get a state id or license until i get work authorization. i can prove who i am, but not susre if those forms will be valid. my college id is old and so is my library card. have selective service card and card from bank that has my photo on it.

i will make the trip anyway. just don't want to spend an entire day each way on a bus.

The I-130 petition which is approved for you and which you will be getting soon is for international travel only - has nothing to do with domestic travel.

As long as you have a valid photo ID - u could travel within the country using airports. That has nothing to do with you I-130

Doesn't matter if I-94 expired. As long as you don't cross the border, you can travel whenever... And yes, you can use your foreign passport as long as it's valid. I was flyinng a lot with my foreign passport and expired I-94 within the US, never had any problems. You don't need any other document for domestic trips, so don't worry. Have a safe trip!
:)

dani - in shock with what you say. doesn't people need valid us id's? can't get a driver license or state id just yet (need work auth for that). who should i call to make sure?

Inquisitor, don't worry! Although I was very shy about it as well, I know for sure you don't have to have a state ID for domestic flights. I remember, 3,5 years ago I was flying to Hawaii with my european passport and without state ID (my I-485 was pending at the time, and ID didn't arrive yet). You can call the airport and ask :) But all they care about is that your name macthes the name on the ticket. That's it, mate!

dani - then you used your expired i-94 before 9/11. i travelled by plane before 9/11. and had you gotten the official approval letter? and pin, what do you mean?

No, 3,5 years ago was 2003-))) No, I didn't have an approval letter, it was pending when I went to Hawaii. My I-94 was expired in october 2001, but it was still attached to my passport. They removed it during the interview. I also came here before 9/11.
I didn't bring any paper work with me except my marriage certificate cause my e-ticket was issued for my husbands last name, and my passport was with my maden. They didn't even looked in it.
Inquisitor, I am telling you, call the airport, if you are having any doubts. They are happy to help.
