Friends,
Recently we changed our lawyer and our I-485 were approved during this transition. Now lawyer says he didn't receive the approval notice and the notice which we received at our addresss also reads "Approval Notice". But I read on this forum that we only get the courtesy copy of approval notice. How do I make sure this is Actual Approval Notice or its our courtesy copy.
I want to get the actual approval notice for record purpose.

Those who got the approval notice in mail please post if your approval letter reads somewhere "courtesy copy"

Thanks in advance

Hi vahope4gc,

Just below your address is a line that reads "Courtesy Copy: original sent to : your attorney's name"

And the next line starts with "This courtsey copy ...."

Thanks

I don't see "Courtesy Copy: original sent to .." and no where it says "Courtesy Copy". So I think it is original approval notice and they didn't update my attorney information yet.

Thanks

possibly ..

your old lawyer may have sent in a letter that he no longer represents you. If so, he's playing by the book. Good for you!

The original copy is "I-797" and the courtesy copy is "I-797C". You can look at the top right corner of the notice and determine whether it is original or courtesy copy.

No, my both are "I-797" forms. The main difference is that tne Courtesy Copy has an additional section just below your address, like gchopefull already said:
the first line:
"Courtesy Copy: Original sent to: your attorney's name"
plus 3 more lines:
"This courtesy notice is to advise you ...."

If you don't see "Courtesy Copy: Original sent to..." it means that you have an Original Copy.

The Original Copy starts with:
"Your application for permanent resident status has been approved..."
