Approval Date and Naturalization

I had a question for everyone...What matters in the calculation of 5 years of permanent residence:

 I-485 Approval Date or Priority Date??

According to my lawyer, my PR application was approved on January 19, 2001 (my PD) and not June 13, 2002 (my Approval Date). I am still not very clear.
