Appointment with an expired passport

Hello,

My passport has expired a while ago and I am all the way up to fingerprints in my I-485 process. The appointment will come sooner than later, but my passport is a bit of dilemma. My country has decided to switch blanks at the end of 2004 and they printed new ones with mistakes. So the printing stopped and the amount printed is very limited making it impossible to renew the passport until spring of 2006. It doesn't help that the country has hit the times of turmoil and a complete goverment change has happened, but things are not queiting down. The last thing the government gives a damn about is old style passports not getting renewed.

How will it affect me at the time of the interview? Can I get a GC and skip the passport stuff all together? I don't intend on traveling even if somebody close one dies, a chance to stay here is too precious to give up.

In case you are wondering what country it is -> Kyrgyzstan

Thanks

if you do not come with the passport it will be worst

better come with the expired passport then not come with any passport .What the person want to check is your originald passport and the visas that you had on it if it is really you on it even if it is expired . You probably would have the i-485 approuve with no stamping on the passport but you would definitly receive the card in the mail . Another way is to ask your consulate for a extension stamp it would extend the old passport for 1 more years it works for me at my consulate then i had plenty of time to go for finger print . Now i apply for a new one and it would take about 1 to 3 month to receive it .

thank you so much for your reply. i can stop worrying now sort of. i am going to try and get my passport extended.
