Applying without lawyer

Does anyone have any experience applying for EAD on their own (without lawyer's help)?

I would like to get EAD to take up a part-time job. Does this part-time job necessarily have to have the same job description as my employment based 485 ? I have heard that the part-time job can be anything including opening a business. Is this true?

How difficult is it applying for EAD by one self?

Thanks a lot!

it's very straightforward... no need to get a lawyer. I filed my 485 and 765 myself without a lawyer and just got my iEAD last week...

But if you have difficulty with forms then get a lawyer to help you.

Thank you both for replying. I was finally able to convince my employer and their lawyer to apply for EAD. Since I don't realistically expect to get the EAD any time soon, I might as well get prepared for iEAD.
