Applying I-485 for dependents

Hi,
I applied for GC, right now my son (4 years old) is in India. While applying I-485, whether he should be in USA or if I can provide all the documents for applying I- 485 will be ok?
Please advise.

He needs to be physically in the US to apply I-485.
