I am approaching my 1 year after ASYLUM granted and I want to know what steps I need to take to apply for GC.Do I have to do Medicals right away? Can I include my family who are still in my country of origin,no derivative status yet? Please those who have ideas advise me.How much does the whole process cost?Do I need to use a Lawyer/Attorney?
Anyone done it with Catholic charities, how good are they?

You do NOT do the medical at this time and you do NOT include family members who are not eligible in their own right (living in the US for one year after getting asylum status).

I think you can do it yourself.

Lawyer's help is not required but I think it's helpful to have an immigration expert check your application before you mail it in. Because if there's a mistake in your application or left something out then it can result in unnecessary delays in the overall processing time.

I think that having a lawyer may minimize the need to submit additional evidence. at this is my personal experience

another factor to consider is your case will not be looked at for more than ten years, as things stand now. Will the lawyer you pay be still around?

Shamshon,

Did you have a lawyer for the I-485?
