Applying for GC for parents.

Hello,

I am a US citizen , naturalized and want to get my parents here and get them a GC. The sticky issue for me and them is the medical insurance.

They would like to stay here for 6 months and then stay in India for 6 months. In this case will the travelers insurance work for them, even if they are on GC? I also not very sure if travelers insurance (being very cheap) is really going to cover anything.

Please advice.
 
Your parents appear to be planning to use a GC as an alternative for a visitors visa. They need to live in the US and make their plans as though they were US residents.

As a GC holder, US travel insurance would cover their travel to India but they should maintain full coverage in the US.

It will be far cheaper - and safer for your finances - if they maintain their current residence and visit the US since they can be medevaced to their home for medical care.

But no they are not using an alternative for visitor's visa as they already have had visitor's visa for last 10+ years. They want to spend time with us when they try becoming a passive partner in the businesses they own (or have a share in).

Ultimately its my effort more as they are growing old and they need some rest from work they have accustomed themselves for years.
