I have I-20 from Lamar University, Beaumont, Texas with an out-of-state tuition waiver and $1000 scholarship.
I am also offered a position with software consultancy company which will file for H1-B. The company will file under the 65,000 quota starting October 1, 2005.
I want to work in the US, and so desire to obtain an H1B visa. But I also have an opportunity to obtain a Student (F-1) visa and arrive to US before October 1. I just want to be in US ASAP. I have two questions.
Once the H1-B application is filed with INS and the application is still pending for processing, can I apply for F-1 visa at Mumbai consulate in mid-May 2005?
Assuming I have been granted F-1 visa in mid-May 2005 and my H1-B application is approved in June 2005. Can I still arrive in US in July 2005 on Student visa and change over to H1-B status after October 1, 2005?
