Applying for EAD Renewal

Gurus,
I am applying for EAD Renewal by myself. So I wanted to know from the folks who have already applied for EAD Extension about 2 questions I have.

a. Current Immigration Status ( as I currently using my EAD )
b. What should be the Eligibilty Category ? My intial application was filed with (c)(9)

A question

On the INS web site, it says one should renew EAD 6 months before it is expiring. People usually renew EAD 3-4 months ahead of expiration. I am planning to file the renew just after my first EAD is 6 month old. One reason is that TSC is a very slow center, and the other is that the fee is going to increase if one files on or after Feb.19.

Can anyone tell me if there is any problem (e.g. filing renewal too early) for filing 6 months before it expires? Thanks a lot.

Just a note

I heard my 485 approval. It was approved on 02/06/2002.

This is what I have understood. If INS doesn\'t approve your EAD within 90 days of your application the EAD is automatically renewed for 240 days. Now you can walkin to a local INS office with your EAD Reciept Notice and you can get a temporary EAD too while you are waiting INS Service Center to send you a renewed card. It safe to apply around 75 - 90 days.
