My mother is here (in USA) from India on a tourist visa (B2). She now plans to go to Canada as a tourist. I need to know if getting a Canadian Tourist VISA will be a problem with Canadian Consulate in US (NYC is the one for me) eg like USA insists that one should apply for visa in their home country only.

Has some had any similar situation before ?

I DO NOT THINK NYC CANADIAN CONSULATE WILL GIVE VISITOR VISA TO YOUR MOM, THEY WILL TELL APPLY IN YOUR HOME COUNTRY, YES IF YOU WANT TO LOOSE $50 APPLICATION FEE YOU CAN TRY IT

In June 2000 (i.e., last year), my aunt, too, visited US on visitor\'s visa and she could get her Canadian visitor\'s visa from Canadian Embassy at DC based on her confirmed return ticket to India and valid US visa without any problem.

I support Jigesh Patel. You should not have problem for getting Canadian visa if you return tickets or some other kind of confirmation. One may not go back to India for just crossing US border to enter canada.
