Apply for EAD without employer's knowledge

Guys,
My case is under retrogression, and in the mean time I want to explore the possibility of AC21. I am currently on H1 with my GC Sponsoring employer but I want to apply for EAD without letting my employer know. If I apply for EAD on my own, would my employer or attorney come to know about it?
I would appreciate if you can answer my question.

You apply and the responce is sent to you only. I applied for my renewals on my own for the EAD and AP. My lawyer received nothing with these applications.
