Hi, I'm thinking of traveling to several Asian countries as tourist for fun, such as Tailand, Malyasia and Singapore, etc. Does anybody know if it's possible or easy to get their visas with RTD? Thanks.

Singapore does not need visas for Refugee Travel Document holders.

Remember to double check!

Dear FightForFate1:

I strongly recommend that prior to your departure for your trip, please visit your airline counter at the airport and make sure that they're okay with your RTD and visas and such. I had a good friend who was denied boarding (coincidentally, he was going to Singapore on a RTD) because the American Airline personnel behind the counter who checked him in:

1. did not recognize the RTD was a legitimate replacement of a passport.
2. kept asking for a visa even though none was required from the country.

You'll be surprised by how many of the domestic airlines here are completely clueless about RTDs and they come up with all these silly assumptions to not let you get onto the plane (because they want to avoid a fine from the country in case when you fly to say Singapore and you're not allow to enter the country itself). For them, when in doubt, it's better to turn you down.

What I suggest that you do is go to the airline counter a week before you're scheduled to leave and ask for a supervisor/manager to verify that you have all the doucments that you need to board your flight. Take down his/her name and make sure that if something goes wrong on the day you leave (e.g. ignorant personnel not letting you board flight), you can ask for this person to help you out.

Also getting a Thai visa is very simple. They issue one in 2 hours with a return ticket and 25 bucks.. thats all. Thai people are very nice especially at the embassy and they get excited when you tell them you r going to thailand...

Hi, ukulele, thank you for very much for the warning. I'll follow your advice to double-check with the airline counter.

wantmygcnow, thank you for the information regarding Thailand. That's very good to know.
