Applied for OPT no response 2 months now!

Hello,

I hope someone on this forum has been in my situation and found a way of solving the problem. I applied for OPT on May 17th, 2008 and its been a good 2 months now and I have received no communication whatsoever from DHS (Nebraska SV). I have been offered a job and I obviously cannot start working except sit and watch this job pass me by. I did not receive a notification or LIN #, infact all I have seen is a Fedex printout that the application packet was received in Nebraska. The director of international studies at my school says I wait till end of July 2008, and if I still do not receive anything he will have to write a formal letter of enquiry.
Its so disheartening when we pay tuition over and above the regular american student, pay $340 and other fees no doubt I will pay just to remain legal in this country. So what does it mean if i did not get a receipt or some kind of reference number or LIN # on my OPT application????

my opt took 3.5 months top be approved even though it's supposed to take less than 3 months. When I went to the local office as indicated by them, they told me they could have given me a temporary one, but they took the machine away from them...
the officer told me he could call the processing center, but that they almost never answered, luckily, they did answer and said that it was almost processed... when I got home that day, it had been approved. I think it was just sitting at someone's desk...

I don't think USCIS handles all applications as they should, that's all I can say...
you should have at least received the receipt notice, not sure why they didn't send it
 
one of the guys on this forum gave out 3 fax numbers he used to contact the nebraska svc ctr, i was skeptical to try it but i figured i had nothing to lose, i faxed them a letter enquirying about my application even attached the job offer letter...15mins later i got a call apparently they had indeed sent a receipt but it was sent back to them something about the address was off..anyway the guy i spoke to said since i offered a job he'd see what he could do to get my application taken care of....:) so now at least i know my application wasnt in a heap of shredded paper!

I am in a similar situation right now. I sent in my application July 7 with a start date of Aug 18 (and have included an offer letter). I supposed to start at my new job on Aug 18. Is there anything that I can do to expedite my OPT approval as it is still showing pending. Can somebody please provide me with the fax numbers so that I can fax them a request letter? Thanks in advance!
