I have applied for OPT on March 5th and my I20 is expiring on May 15th. I am pretty much sure that by that time, I won't be able to get my OPT card because rite now its taking 4-5 months to get OPT card.
Please suggest me what can I do ?

Hi,
I am in kind of same boat. It is OK as long as you have applied for the OPT in time and indicate the Beginning period not too far (??) from the I-20 expiration date. We do not know what starting date would INS give when they issue OPT. If they issue OPT say in June 5th but actually mark OPT starting from May 15th, you would have already lost about 20 days on your OPT. Thats the loss involved.
Thanks,
Sri

The INS would not care if the student loses a month due to their (INS) inability to process the OPT application in time. However, by law (at least that was what it used to be), if the case is pending for more than 90 days after the notice date they mention on the acknowledgement (not the date you mailed them the application), one can go to the local INS office (not service center) and ask for an interim EAD.

INS is crazy - reminds me of our government.

A friend of mine got his OPT very late and the starting date was nither what he originally chose nor when INS approved it. It was somewhere in middle. The starting date on EAD card was about 45 days after what my friend asked for. So, he actually got grace of one and half month.

And, we could not figure out any logic on this matter. As I said...Crazy...
