Applied for Adance Parole. Received Re-entry Permit for 2 years

Folks,

I applied for Advance Parole (I-131) in March-04. I got approval on Apr-8. Stamped on 26th. On Apr 21 they issued me a Re-entry Permit valid for 2 years. It is not the AP document they used to send us before. It clearly says, Re-entry Permit. It is Booklet, similar to Passport, geen color.

Is there any use of it?
Did they send this by mistake?
Is this the one GC holders apply for when they go out of US for long period of time?

yep, that's exactly what it is. at least your money didn't go to waste... you got something that you could use.

Pork Chop,

Congrats on your Approval and Thanks for the Reply. I had to do some aggressive lobbying to get my one approved. I have a minor issue.

My family have left for India and their H4 expired. They are also approved now. My lawyer is claiming I have to file I-824 and get it approved before it goes to Indian consulate.

I read somewhere, that if there is an approval you don't need an I-824.

Looking forward for your inputs.

thank you, reliance, and congrats on yours.

i am afraid that i don't have much information on this type of application. i take it that only your approval has come through, and not your family's, which is why their H4s are now invalidated. effectively, filing an 824 would make their's a consular processing case for immigrant visas, and it seems that it is only after approval of your 824 that it would reach a u.s. consular post abroad. the current processing date for an 824 in NSC is listed as 11/17/2003, which may or may not be accurate as we know is the case with EB 485s. on the other hand, if your family's derivative 485s have been filed, then their approvals might come through, and they could return on deferred inspection. however, that, as far as i know, might require a separate re-entry document, such as a sub-type of a 131.

i guess this does not help you much. in the absence of any sound advice, you should go with your lawyer's suggestion, or consult with another lawyer for a second opinion.

sorry i wasn't much help.
