Application Receipt Number

Today checking online my bank account I've noticed that CIS cashed my 4 checks (2 for I-130 and 2 for I-485)

On the back of the checks were a few numbers, one with 9 digits, one with 10 digits and one looking like this:

MSC 123 456 1230 (I-130 mother)
MSC 123 456 1231 (I-485 Mother)
MSC 123 456 1232 (I-130 Father)
MSC 123 456 1233 (I-485 Father)

I'm assuming these are the receipt numbers.

What do you think? Am I right, or I should look for one of the other numbers?

Thank you.
:)

Suzy, just in case you put the "real" numbers remember that is a public forum and safety first.

And answering your question yes the receipts are like that MSC and 10 digits, if these digits are on cronological order there had been issued more than a million receipts already

Good luck,

I really appreciate your concern.
No, besides the three letters "MSC" all the other numbers are not the real ones.

And judging by the real ones, I'll say that they went over 600 millions receipts!!!

Thanks
:)

Yes Suzy... those are the receipt numbers starting with MSC. ;)

The receipt numbers follow a specific format like this. For eg. MSC 05 245 12345

* MSC represents the NBC, where the application was initially received into the electronic system.
* The 05 represents the fiscal year (October 1, through September 30) in which the case was received.
* The 245 represents the computer workday in the fiscal year on which the fee was taken.
* The 12345 represents the particular case number.

So its not necessarily true that they went over 600 million receipts to get to yours ;)

My $0.02

wow, you have to write one check for each form you submits when you submits multiple forms? e.g., if I submit 485, 130, 131, 765, I need to write 4 checks? or I can just write one with sum of all fees?

Yep. You should send a separate check for each application you submit.
Why? This will avoid the necessity of returning ALL applications should just one be found to be unacceptable.

WOW... you never fail to amaze me with your knowledge on the subject Ari... I never tried to figure out what those numbers mean when I received the NoA. May be I was too excited to see that the application has been received :p lol. Wonder what will happen to me when we get the interview letter

So, I'm assuming that if I go online to USCIS website, those numbers I use to find out the case status? Right?

.

Right on... yes... those are the nos that you add to your portfolio or use to search your case status.

Thank you.

So far this is the message I get when I try to ad them to my Portfolio:

Validation Error(s)
You must correct the following error(s) before proceeding:
Attempting to add a case that does not exist. Check the app receipt number.

I believe it takes a while...

Suzy... The time it takes to see your status online after you get your receipt numbers is anywhere between 0 days to couple of weeks to never. Some people see their status online right away after they get their receipt numbers, for some people it takes a couple of days to weeks and some people never see the status and their cases are approved.

In my case, my I-485 and I-765 showed up online only after i had my FP/Bio done (that is ~2 weeks after my ND). My I-131 showed up after i responded to an RFE (that was ~4 months later). My GC was approved and i NEVER got to see my I-130 online.

My understanding is that NBC updates your EAD and AP case status, the service center updates case status of your I-130 and your DO works closely with the ASC and updates the case status of your I-485. Not everyone does a good job when it comes to updating the status. Anyways, online case status has proven to be very erratic, unreliable and out of sync with the actual timeline but it definitely gives you some instant gratification just by looking at your case status online knowing that it is in the USCIS system and hoping there would be a LUD tomorrow :D

I agree with you completely on that point Ari... even though we know things are okay once we see the checks getting cleared... but seeing that case status pop up online - that's a sight in itself ;).

Suzy,
in our case, the receipt no. on the scanned copy of check wasn't very clear, in fact there were 3 digits that were quite unclear and we got the same error in our first few attempts... but trying diff cominations of the digit that were not so clear, we finally managed to add it to our portfolio :D. So it could be either of the two - your case status has not been put online as yet, or the receipt nos are not correct. Just give it another couple of days, once you get the NoAs, you can try again.

So does this mean that the only way to receive the case number is through the stamp on the check? Am I wrong? I didn't know this. I have used a Bank's Money Order for my application. :(
I guess I can always ask for a copy of the money order.

No publicus, you will soon receive NOA's in mail that would have the case receipt number on them. The tracking of numbers on the cashed check is for the impatient ones who cant wait for the notice to come in mail and like to know their receipt numbers right away so they punch in and check their case status online :D

I-485 and I-30 Fees

Hello,

i am doing consular processing for my father. But they send my file back to my india address with the rejection notice of incorrect fees. I send one cashier check of $1365 for I-485 and I-30. Do i need to send seprate checks for each application and also can i send personal checks too?
