ill make this simple.. i came here when i was younger legally got a ss.. overstayed went back to country came back illegally.. i am now a senior in h.s going to college next year.. i am willing to pay full tuition as i know i cannot apply for fasfa, i am instead applying for private scholarships. i have two questions
1. would it be easier and less risky if i went to a private catholic school?
2. also i dont know wat to put in my application.. should i lie and say i am a citizen and put in my ss # even though it says not valid for emplyment, or wat should i say?? i am not a permanant resident or a citizen which are the choices to pick from, nor do i have a dual citizenship or another visa type that is working.
please please help! i am a student who works hard in school and wants nothing more than to go on to college. any help is appreciated!

Sady,

I apologize for not getting back to you sooner.

Okay, here is what I was trying to find out. I had heard that in Ohio that as long as you are a resident there, they charge resident fees regardless of your status. What I have found out since then, is that they charge resident fees regardless of your legal status.

Unfortunately, because of your status, you probably cannot get into a public institution (you probably already knew this). It is very hard to have confidential conversations with people at public institutions so I don't know if you would be able to talk to anyone. The religious universities may be more sympathetic to your cause but you really need to talk to someone there. You say you are willing to pay full tuition which is generally about $ 1,000 - 2,000 per class - so each semester will be between $ 4,000 to $ 10,000 depending on the number of classes you take.

If you can afford the above amounts then you should spend $200 - $400 for an immigration lawyer and find out if you could get a foreign student visa. If you get this, then you would at least have some legal status.

If you get this status , then when you graduate from college/university, you are allowed to work legally for 27 months after graduation. During those 27 months you may be able to get other types of visas that would allow you to stay longer - so there is some hope. Keep in mind, this is only for a four year degree or more - so an Associates won't work.

My best advice to you though is to deal with an immigration lawyer that understands the issues of students that are not in a legal status.

Get into college as a full time student, get your I-20, process your F-1 visa and later on when you graduate you can apply for a job and stay here in the US, but don't complicate your life now.... :D

the problem is i cannot apply for a i-20 or a f-1 for the reasons i stated above, i first overstayed my visa the first time then came back illegally so i would have no legal forms to validate my i-20 or f-1.. i have spoken and paid an immigration lawyer all the way in columbus and his best advice was to go back to my country and maybe study there.. this is not an option .. i neeedd to go to college here so i am on my own... my next question is... what should i say my legal status is? i have heard that it is a felony to lie about your citizenship although they would never find out, but when and if the act dream comes out will i be in trouble if i do so? also one of the option they give me is to be refered to as having a k-4 visa or a v-2 visa... which i have neither buttt the v-2 is the child of a legal permanent resident which i am but i had to petition for it dec 2001, which i did not... pleaseee give me some advice on what to put concerning my status on an online application... you have no idea how much this helps!!! thankk u!!
