Application for US passport questions

Have few questions on the application, if somebody can answer

1) It asks for "Proof Of Identity". Is "Certification of Naturalization" good enough for this or do you have to send a copy of driver license?

2) How long does it take these days to get a passport with regular submittal?

3) I saw "Certificate of Naturalization" is mailed separately from the passport. After how long, do you get the certificate?

4) Is it safe to mail the certificate of Nat. without making a copy of it? (in case it gets lost)

Thanks.

1. Your certificate is good enough. I mailed mine at the post office. I only had to give them my certificate, photos, application, and fees.

2. I received my passport in eight weeks, which was done during the busy summer time. It's been said on the newspapers that there shouldn't be any more delays because summer is over. 4 to 8 weeks is normal, I believe.

3. Only if you use expedited service, then the passport sometimes is mailed back to the applicants separately. I used routine service, the certificate came with the passport.

4. At the ceremony, they already told us to make several copies of the certificate. I think it is safe to mail it for the passport purpose. But on the safe side, just make photocopies of it.

#1 You only need to send your natz cert, but if I recall, the clerk at the post office might want to see an additional form of id such as a drivers license.

#3 The natz cert is usually mailed back in the same package as a the passport, even if you expedited. Sometimes however, it does come back separately. Not sure why.

The Cerfificate of Nat is what you send......I had to show my Canadian Passport to the Passport officer to swear out the application.

Regular takes 8 weeks more or less...I expedited mine and got it in 7 days.

My Cert of Nat. came back with my passport.

I applied for the passport in Boston, at my local post office, on Sept. 25, and used regular service. I had to show my French passport as proof of identification (seemed strange, but it worked). I made several copies of my naturalization certificate just in case. My US passport arrived on Saturday, October 6 via regular mail. The nat. certif was included in the envelope.

In oath ceremony venue, can you make photocopy of Nat. Cert

Thanks everybody for answering this query.

One more question...

Planning on sending my app for passport in oath ceremony venue. Do they have photocopy machine to make copies of Naturalizatin certificate?

You can get the final answer from the office where the Oath will be performed (courthouse, Conference Center, hotel etc.). Even if your Oath is at a location where they have a photocopy machine (for example a hotel for Dallas TX), it is not quite sure that if you leave the ceremony just to make a photocopy you can be re-admitted to the room where they take passport applications.

The best outcome would be if at the location of your Oath Ceremony the Officers were able to submit passport applications without submission of the Naturalizatino Certificate original - in some locations it has been reported that Officers validated the applications on the spot and no submission of the Naturalization Certificate was necessary but this is not at all Oath Ceremonies. And I doubt you can find out ahead of time whether this will be the case for where you are scheduled to take the Oath.

In the doubt, you can decide to submit your application only if you either can make a photocopy of the original before submission or keep the original, and submit later (for example at a post office) otherwise.
