AP vs H1 please help?

Hi,
I have used AP to re-enter US and wondering if i must use EAD to work or not since i used AP. Though i have a valid visa H1 extension but didn't get a visa stamping in my passport when i was in India. Since i don't have a valid H1 visa in my passport, do i need to use EAD to work or stay on H1? At the port of entry the immigration officer wrote "AOS" on my H1 visa in the passport.
Does it mean i am no longer on H1 visa and i must use EAD to work? Could anyone please advise me....

U dont have to do anything

Even if u use AP u r still in H status.Visa stamp in PP is just for travel purposes and in future if u want to get back to H1 status for travel u can do so by getting a Visa stamp either from St louis or from u'r home country as long as u have u'r approved H1 .
