Question for the pros here.

My wife's AP is valid till Jan 5th 2007 or so. But she came to US just 10 days ago with AP and it was stamped by the immigration officer for 1 year (i.e valid till september 2007).

Now does that mean she can travel to india (and come back) anytime until september 2007 or the AP will expire in Jan 2007.

Your input is very valuable to me, please respond if you know the answer.

Thanks a lot!

Better apply for her new AP

I had asked a same question to the immigration officer at the Port of Entry during my last entry to US. Somehow, he gave a vague reply that AP is for leaving the country while the P0E stamp on the AP was for your stay in the country. Somehow it didn't make much sense to me as a pending 485 should be sufficient for legal status if I am not mistaken. However, I didn't discuss it any further.

It wouldn't harm to apply for a new AP other than the costs associated with it. I would same better be safe than sorry and go ahead and apply for new AP.

1- Airline cariers/Airport Agencies always consider the "Date of issue" and "Date of of Expiration" printed on AP. They never consider date stamped by imm. Officer. I actually, confirmed at Manchester/Karachi airports, because I possessed all APs with me those were showing valid date as stamped by im. Officer but AP's printed dates had been expired.
Here in US, imm. Officer told me that the period of stay stamped on AP has multiple purposes and uses for private and public sector organizations/agencies those require legal status and period of stay to help them process the relevant cases.
I think this would help.

Thanks for all your answers.

I just confirmed with my lawyer that I had to apply for my wife's AP now and I have applied for her AP again.

Thanks.
