Travelling on AP and H1 & H4 expired (for me and wife). I am carrying copies of the documents (starting from labor -> to date). Do I need to carry originals for all these documents.

Anybody had any experience, please share and suggest.

I really dont feel safe to have originals carried all way along. Its just me. Please suggest.

When you want to re-enter using AP, all you need is the original AP itself (& ur passport).

You may keep a copy of the 485 receipt - but even that is not needed as all your information is linked to your A# (which is on the AP).

You definitely don't need labor, 140 related docs at all .... don't have to carry all that weight !

If you are still maintaining H status, then you can have docs supporting that status - again not mandatory, but good to have.

Thanx

Thanks a lot!!! I got 3 AP documents - are those for multiple entries?

Can you tell me step by step what documents will be stamped at what point of time - while leaveing and while entering.

Leaving US - I-94 will be taken away but do they do anything with AP???

I would appreciate your help.

Steps could be:

While leaving US
Entering INDIA
While leaving India
Entering US

Remember to take 2-3 copies of the AP. Airlines people or Indian authorities may ask for a copy. If you do not have a copy you will have to part with one of the original, do not do that at any cose. Always give copies to them.

Here are the answers to your question:

While leaving US
--You will need to show passport, tickets and they will remove the I-94. There is no need to show AP, and you will not be asked to show.

Entering INDIA
--Only your passport is required to complete immigration formalities, nothing else.

While leaving India
-- Show AP to airline people during check in. If they ask one for their record, only give them the copy. Do not give the original.

Entering US
--Show passport and AP. You will be taken for secondary inspection, where they will verify AP information on their system. Then they will stamp the original AP and return it to you. Again, you just need one original, not all three.
