I mean are there some people with different airline experiences that can be shared...

2 Q: I complete 3 yrs H1 on Oct, 2003. I have not renewed it thinking My GC would come and I could work on EAD. Is it really important to renew the H1 or just wait n watch the USBCIS slow pace of approvals. Is it the rt time to apply for H1 renewal???????

Can I utilize my remaining 3 yrs of H1 in future

Comments needed

I used my AP to enter US last weekend. I don't even have H1(working on EAD) and entered without any problem.
Let me know if you have any specific questions.

I told them i am using AP and they gave one form. I stood in visa line and they are me to goto one room. Where they checked my AP and they let me go. Whole process took 10 mins.

Can we stand in permanent residents line.
No. they asked me to goto Visas line.

PS

Travel on AP

You can stand in the line as Permanent Resident at NY JFK. I just came back from Europe this Sunday and stood in the INSPASS line, not visa line. They asked me to do the second inspection and let me in without any questions.

ibm101,

1. Fill out I-94 (the white card they give you on the plane), it is also good to know the names/numbers of the various documents you need. It will help clarify things in your mind as well as when you ask/answer questions.

2. Stand in the non-resident/non-citizen line, since you are neither.

3. Show the immigration officer your AP, and he/she will direct you towards secondary inspection.

It is best to get a letter from the consulate of all the countries stating that AP is ok for their country or even better get a transit visa for the country to be safe.

Mostly there aren't any problems at a US airport while arriving back with valid papers. The problems are mainly while transiting or while boarding, as some country's officials don't recognize AP.

I had to go back from Houston as French official said they don't recognize AP.

i never had any problems travelling on an AP (to India, France, Netherlands, UK, Japan, Canada) in the past 2 years. When they ask for valid visa to enter the US, just tell them "Here is the VISA" (they usually have no notion of "advanced parole document" and "parole" is NOT the right word to use with an airlines employee or a cranky immigration official working the night shift at delhi/mumbai OR paris.

officials at delhi did not have a problem with the APD as long as you point out the date (stamped APD is even better since it shows you entered at least once already) though i didnt have any issues with the new APDs.

They will ask for a copy (and take 20 minutes to do it) if you dont already give them one (in color preferably).

Again, tell them its your VISA or "ENTRY DOCUMENT" for USA.

Returning to US is no problem since most major airports see tens if not more APDs every day. They will send you to "Secondary Inspection" rooms (except CHicago where they stamped APD at the usual immigration desk).

So make lots of copies (get them signed by your attorney for extra 'validity' :-) and give out one for airlines to keep. I Know United has a policy of keeping a copy as does Singapore Airlines and Lufthansa - dunno about other airlines.

hope this helps. enjoy your travels.
