AP Travel Experience - Atlanta

Hi Guys,

Me and wifey used AP on our way back into USA at the Atlanta airport (AC-21 case working on EAD). It was a pretty straightforward though time taking process as follows:

1. Stood in line for "Visitors and Non residents"

2. On being called, told POE officer we were gonna use APs. Handed over all the 3 copies of APs to him.

3. He said, "this would take a bit of time"; put our APs, passports and I-94 filled forms in a green folder; and sent us to a room with the sign "green folder cases only". There was another room with "orange folder cases only" sign as well - guess everything in Bush's administration is color coded now.

4. After waiting for 45 minutes in the green folder room, an officer called us and stamped 1 of our APs with "Paroled till Apr 5, 2005" (one year from yesterday) date. The same message was stamped on the new I-94 cards issued as well. She mentioned that they would stamp the APs everytime we traveled on them, and they would use the other 2 copies if they ran out of space on the first one.

That's it - and then we were on our way! No questions asked about EAD, whether I still work for the same employer, etc etc.

In any case, we carried the following documents with us:
a. 485 receipts
b. 140 approval notice
c. LC papers received through FOIA
d. Copy of AC-21 papers sent to NSC
e. Current employment letter + paystubs
f. EAD approval notice
g. APs

Hope this helps!

Thanks!

Great info, atlantabhopali! I have been asking many people around for such details. I am planning on using AP for a quick visit to India. In my case I need to be a bit alert as I am on valid H1, but NO visa stamp in my passport. I came from Canada as a PR of Canada, and per the rules in force that time, I did NOT need a visa.

Have you seen/heard about any such case?

Would appreciate any leads.

Thanks again.

AC-21

Our company has been acquired by another company and my I-140 has been approved.
Should I need to file any documents like AC-21 to the service senter? I was not able to fins any documents called AC-21 on the website and my lawyer does not think I should file any documents like AC-21. I'm confused.

Thanks

Were you asked to go through US-VISIT. I was not fingerprinted or photographed using AP in Detroit but had to go through secondary inspection. Can you please clarify. Thanks.

rsh,

We were asked to go thru secondary inspection too - in Atlanta, they have divided secondary inspection in 2 parts: green and orange. We were asked to go thru green, as summarized in my starting post above.

We were not fingerprinted/photographed either.

atlantabhopali,

Is it required to show all the three copies of AP? Actually, my wife and I have received only two copies. Is this going to be a problem?
Thanks

mappani,

You are only required to show 1 copy. As I wrote above, they provide three copies in case the stamping space on it is filled up due to multiple entries during the AP validity duration. I confirmed this at the POE with them.

I have read a few cases where the POE officer asked to see all three copies, and even the other documents that I mentioned in my post above. You gotta explain to them then that you received only 2 copies. Have never heard of a case actually where a person had a valid AP and was not allowed entry.

goodluck!

atlantabhopali,
You wrote that they stamped 1 of your APs with "Paroled till Apr 5, 2005". What does this mean? You don't need to apply for AP till Apr 05 2005? Please let me know if you have an answer to this?

Thanks,

Raja,

I asked them the same question. The Apr 2005 date doesnt means much. It is basically a placeholder to put in I-94 expiry date equivalent. The POE officer said that the date signifies that I am in status (parolee) till Apr 05, though agreed that I would be in status (AOS Pending) even after that date.

I do have to apply for a new AP before my current one expires (Jan 05).

goodluck!
