AP timeline

I filed my AP with I-485 application on July 25, 2007. I need to go outside USA in mid Nov. and would appreciate if someone could give an estimated timeline (or steps involved) to get the AP document.

Is it mandatory that FP is done before we get the AP approval.

In the current situation, no one can predict how long it takes to get AP or EAD. Even GOD and IOs don`t know. You do not need FP for AP. I got my EAD without FP recently and I filed on june 20th.
