Is there anybody enter the states from Chicago by using AP recently? Is there any problems? I am going to travel outside the states next week and be back ten days later, just want to make sure anything is all right because I heard some rumors that somebody got some troubles by using AP/EAD. I am going to carry passport, AP, EAD, copy of I-485 receipt, and an employment letter from the company. What else should I carry?

Please advise! Thanks!

We used AP in Chicago

We used it on May 31st 2003 in Chicago.

It was very easy and straightforward. The officer asked us whether we'd used AP before (To which, we answered 'yes' - 'coz we'd travelled on AP in Jan 03)

I think you're all set with AP, EAD, I-485 receipt etc. Take a few extra photocopies of AP. In some countries, they don't understand AP. So if they want, they can keep a photocopy for their records.

I got another question about travleing. What documents will the IIO take when I depart the states? I know one of them is my original I-94 form. But I am using H-1 visa now and the approval notice (I-797 form)has an updated I-94 and I am supposed to staple that card with my original I-94. So will the IIO take that new card as well? When I come back, I know I will have another I-94, but it is different from my original one which was used by all my documents, do I have to do any changes to my filed documents like I-485 and new EAD/AP? Thanks for clarification!

First of all,

If you've a valid H1B visa stamped on your passport, you do not have to use AP.

When you leave US, the airline people (not IIO) will take the white original I-94 from your passport (not the one from I-797).

When you come back, you'll get a new white I-94 when you do immigration. Inform your lawyer about this new I-94 and he/she'll take care of it. Personally, I don't think you've to do any changes with your filed I-485/EAD/AP.

Thanks for the reply! I don't have a h-1b visa stamped on my passport. It is only a notice of approval (I-797 form) with a white card on the bottom of it, and I am supposed to attached this white card on my passport. My question is when I depart the states, are they going to take the white card? Thanks!
