A dumb question here: after I-485 filed, I knew I need to keep the continuity of EAD to keep legal status. The question is
Do I need to keep the continuity of AP to keep legal status? Thanks.

No AP is needed for maintaining Status. Only if you want to travel out of the country, you need to apply for AP
 
daj is correct. AP is only required to travel out of the country. If I am not worng AP only required if you are working on EAD and want to travle out of the country.

Once 485 filed u r in legal status, u need EAD only to continue working. and AP for travelling.
