Might be a coincidence. But then again - might be not. My 3rd EAD/AP combo was applied for on April 2nd, 2004 and approved June 3, 2004. On the same day, June 3, 2004 a RFE was issued in my case. Once the RFE was answered I was approved. Go figure.
If the 485 isn't approved within three months of the approval of ead/ap and the fingerprints are valid (less than 15 months old) then the uscis would have to do another name/security check which will delay the process.
I would like to believe that my fax/letter about my fingerprints expiring triggered the RFE/approval. I have sent the fax on May 18 and followed up by a letter on May 24. My fingerprints would have expired tomorrow (July 7) if I wasn't approved!
Then again - it makes sense that applying for another EAD/AP (or being approved for these) triggers approval proceedings (a RFE in my case). The date being the same for RFE generation and EAD/AP approval raises some eyebrows.
