AP for Secondary Applicant

Gurus,

I have to file EAD and AP for my wife for the first time (she is currently on H1B).

I always thought that EAD could be filed by us, but AP has to be filed by my sponsor's attorney.

Do you guys have any first hand experience in this type of case?
Did you guys filed and got AP for the first time without an attorney?

You can apply for both on your own. I did, as well as many other people on here.
