AP for family emergency

Hi Gurus,

Is it possible to get the AP for family emergency from local office ?

I saw similar post for employment emergency.

If it is possible, what is the procedure ?

Yes, it is possible. If it is a real emergency, go to your local office with proof of medical emergency and all other required documents with form I-131 and you may get it the same day.

I did not have an emergency but wanted to visit India for a marriage (well, that is an emergency in my book!) and applied AP at local office. The IIO at the counter asked me to write on I-131 (in one of the boxes) reason for travel and I wrote "To attend brother's marriage". She commented that technically you are supposed to file this with the Service center where your 485 is pending-but accepted application anyway.

And to my surprise, I had AP in a little over 2 weeks despite holidays in between.

It is worth a try at least if you need to travel in near future.
