AP extension- strange renewal

My lawyers applied for my AP renewal, old AP expires on Jan22, 2003. I went to pick my AP renewal on Dec4th and saw that the new one is valid only until Jan 31, 2003. I asked the Immigration officer about this and she said that they could not give me a longer extension because otherwise they would not be able to send me the interview notice. She said that I should be getting my interview notice in Feb/March. My case was transferred to SF district office in Aug '02.
Why bother to give a renewal for 9 extra days? My lawyers think that this is strange too but don't know what to do about it.

Please help me understand this situation. Thanks
 
This is the way INS makes money, theoretically they did not deny your case and practically they did not approve your case.
So that you will again apply for extension and again INS will make some money :D

Just kidding but it is sure that it must be a mistake from INS, Otherwise there is no logic of 9 days.
 
Did you have true intension to travel in first place.
Just I am guessing : you did not travel with your first time AP.

In INS terms AP is for "true"travellers

Even if someone does't have true intention to travel he/she cannot be denied AP . You are not suppose to guess his intentions to travel or not .Post your answers specfic to the questions asked by ppl other keep it shut. I Think 140_takes_forever is right may be you were dropped. :D
