Hello Gurus,
I need your advice(s)/Suggestion(s) on the below query. I am on valid EAD and I have my AP expiring april 2004. My H1B visa has expired. I am planning to travel outside US ( to Chennai, India) via British Airways. I saw on the Britain Embassy news that I do not need an UK Transit visa. But while returning to US, is my EAD and AP enough to board the flight to US ( either from Chennai or London, Heathrow)?? Do I have to carry any other documents?

Please let me know asap. I appreciate it sincerely.

Thanks,
aravind741.

You don't need EAD for travel. Just carry AP and 485 receipt.

aravind741,
if you're back from india trip, was it smooth travelling using your AP with an expired H1 visa to Chennai?

I would be interested to know, since I'm in a similar situation.

thanks in advance..

yes it was smooth

I did not have any problems. At chennai airport before leaving for US, the immigration check looks at AP. Before that Airline will check the AP ( have 2 or 3 photo copies, some times they may ask for one) and give the boarding pass.

After that at London , before boarding, they will check the AP and Passport. Give both AP and PP to the person who gets to check you. Then fill I-94 as usual in the flight. Then for customs, give ur PP, AP when they call you. They will stamp in AP and PP and in I-94. I dont know , if BA requires to have a Transit visa.

aravind741,
1) do they ask for/did you carry any other supporting docs-like employer letter?
2) curious to know- while entering US,did they write your I94 expiry date as April '04 or some other date ?

I-94 expiry date

they put expiry date in I-94, Ap , PP which is 1 year from the current date of Entry in US. In my case AP is valid till April 2004. since I entered on Oct 12, they put a stampi n I-94/ap/PP as Oct 11 2004. I asked my attorney, attorney said that i have to apply new AP if I am going to travel after April 2004. You can carry all the documents you think that would be important. I carried all the possible documents. like BC, I-485 receipt, tax filings , employment letter , pay slip etc.

I dont know

I dont know what the current transit visa requirement is. Please check with the airline and the corresponding country consulates.

Transit visa for UK

Hi aravind741,

Can you please tell, when did you come back from India? On british consulate web-site, it mentions that they become strict after OCT 18 2003 onwards.

I am also not sure whether I need transit visa in UK while travelling on AP.

Thanks
