AP - 3 Originals

I am travelling to India in May. I have my AP with me and there are 3 original AP documents (to be used 3 times to enter US).

Is it safe to leave one of those AP documents in the US with a friend and carry just the other two (in case you loose AP while in India).

anyone has got any ideas to share
