Dear Friends,

I'm a DV2008 winner from Asia, currently in US with student visa. I decided to go for AOS and do not take the risk of going out and applying for an immigrant visa.

my problem is that my case number is very high (ASIA 16,000) and if I wait for my number to become Current, there is a high chance that I can't finish the procedure by September.

do you think there will be enough time for me ? do you have any suggestion ?

what about sending my application now ! has anybody tried to apply for AOS before becoming Current ? any experience ?

The thing is that there is no way you can say for sure that ur number will be current by september. So , if you do send ur form in now and ur number dosen't become current at all, u might risk losing ur F-1 status.
I will very much suggest that u change from AOS to CP. that is ur only chance at this time. its taking USCIS almost 2 months to send out NOA. U can see my timeline below as i have not received NOA after 40days. Am on f-1 too.

I highly appreciate your response, it is very crucial in my decision making.

I thought that they make all the numbers current for the last month ( or last 2 month), that's what happened in 2007 : http://travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/bulletin/bulletin_3269.html

also they might do something different this time, you are right, nobody knows. but the thing I don't understand is that why I might lose my F-1 ? can you please explain that ?

I thought that if they process my case and approve it before the deadline, I'm fine, and if they don't I just don't get any green card, I don't understand what does it have to do with my F-1 Status ?
